Andres Rico is a current PhD student and research assistant at the City Science group within the MIT Media Lab. Originally from Mexico, he holds a B.S. in Robotics and Artificial Intelligence from Tecnológico de Monterrey and a Master of Science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. His research focuses on developing community-based sensing systems—collaborative technologies for collecting behavioral and environmental data in cities. He works on both the technological aspects, including embedded systems and algorithms, as well as the social and policy dimensions needed to turn data into meaningful action.
His current research focuses on developing accessible, low-power sensor technologies to support improved water resource management in informal settlements through community-based sensing approaches.
